Ramadan is nearing us and recently my company, ISLAMICSG NETWORKS LLP have been awarded to develop the new Ramadan.sg website by MUIS – Majlis Ugama Islam Singapore. This would be the first time that MUIS is taking this website out from their current portal to allow external parties like us to manage it. However contents are still being verified by MUIS before any publication is made on that website.

While waiting for the site to be complete ( Expected by end next week ), promotions and marketing has to start now.

My answer to them is very simple. Yes you can have that shopping cart system in place, but do you know how to sell online?

Try to recall this scenario.. ( I believe most people went through it ).

Scenario:

One day you heard a knock on your door. There you see someone you are not familiar from the peep hole. You decided to open the door and there begins a sales pitch.

“Abang saya dari Bandung, saya ada keropok-keropok dari Indonesia. Abang boleh tolong saya tak?”…… and so on

Familiar with this scenario? Well it is done to us from day to day. Similarly you need a sales man in your website. You don’t just build a website for show. You need to have that site similar to a SALES PERSON talking to your clients.

That is the point of making money online. If your website is not communicating to your buyers, there isn’t any point either. It will definitely not sell either.

If you look at some of the websites today, they have implemented introductory videos. Videos also plays a huge part in online sales these days. If you are not implementing these tactics then you are wasting your time marketing your website that cannot sell.

So if you really want to make money online, get your website to be Your Salesman. Get yourself replace and perhaps you can focus more on the offline matters.

1) Since we started the VIS idea since last year. It has build on quite a creditable name. Hence we’ll stick to that.

Yes even in serving the clients, they too must have their limits. The Goal of the VIS is to be able to work from home smartly. Yes handling clients work can be tough but if one knows how to balance the work and family, things will go great.

Another small referrals are starting to stream via Paypal. It means that someone whom I referred to sign up for Paypal has started to bring in more than $300.

Yes did you know Paypal also have a referral system? Yes you can read the Terms of Service. But of course it takes ages to get the commissions but hey at least I’m getting the small numbers.. So let’s multiply it by 100s and 1000s in the future. Insyallah it will grow, however in this case you are required to have patience. Not all things are seen physically..

Well to more incoming streams of $1-$2..

Well this was supposed to be a VIS interview however it end up being a free consultation.. Bagus benar!! Clearly when I interviewed this candidate, she has the means to pay for the course and she really wants to work from home however her navigation is totally off from the requirements to be a VIS.

A simple question like – Why do you want to be VIS?

Her answer: To use the skills to run and promote a bridal business.

Is this a wrong answer? No its not wrong but its not for a VIS. If you have intentions to run your own business, then this course is not for you. Yes there are knowledge and skills to be learnt  in this course however the VIS is a back end job. Its a back end industry and they too are running a business. However the nature of the business is a supporting role not a front end role.

What is a BACK END JOB?

Yes it may sound like a worse job on Earth, but its not. You must understand that there are FRONT LINERs and there are BACK LINE industries. In fact the IT industry is a back end service.

The BACK END industries is a SUPPORTING Industry. The IT Business is never meant to be in the front lines screaming about the best service on earth. This is similar to the Accounting business. Every business needs Accounts Management. Similarly the IT business plays a pivotal role in supporting other industries in terms of technology. Their growth don’t depend solely on Marketing but on the Quality of work they provide.

The FRONT LINE Business needs the BACK LINE business and vice versa. Both industries cannot survive on its own. So what are FRONT LINE Business then?

FRONT LINE
>> Seminar & Event Industries (Education)
>> Wedding
>> Travel

Basicly what you see at EXPOs are usually the front line business. This includes the retail market.

BACK LINE
>> IT
>> Accounting
>> Legal
>> Administration – Transcribing & Translation
>> and so on.

The back end industries does not really appears in retail events because they don’t have to. They are searched for when the services are required.

Hence those who are signing up as VIS must clearly understand this.

Slept after Isyak last night but woke up around 11pm and now I am typing this entry because of the emails and Facebook messages.

One of the emails was a reply from one of my NUS seniors who asked for helped for a lady whom had been in an accidently recently and she cannot walk because of her condition. This lady wanted to come for the Untung Internet Seminar but she can’t so she wanted to meet me because she wanted to learn how to create a blog that can generate income.

In my reply I wrote to my friend this. She doesn’t need a blog now or internet marketing knowledge now. She needs her confidence back first and to get her to survive. Hence to set up a blog and generate income from it will take some time.

Yes.. This is the truth. Most people who try to make money from blogs will make less than $100 in a year because they never treat it like a business. Those with business knowledge will use the blog differently. Do you know what I use my blog for? Guess….

If you go around with that kind of income, how are you going to survive. So I suggested, she should start off with Data Entry first. There are tons of companies out there who needs help with data entry. With the internet now, these kind of work does not require you to be in person in the office. You can do it from home.

Its gonna pay you very little. Starting from $4 per hour. Now my point is, its still money. Learn this… in Business if there is no incoming cash flow, you are not going to survive. Hence grab what you can first.

Internet Knowledge can come later.

Now another message that came from Facebook. Asking for help and ask me if I can help her with her business. Then in her message she kept saying she is promoting this product. Then she wanted a website to also sell this, that and that. Sound familiar don’t you think? Are you like that also?

Based on my experience, that’s a recipe for disaster. Suddenly I realised this is becoming a very big problem because this problem repeats itself over and over again for the last three years in my life doing consulting work. It hits me again to realise that start ups just makes the same mistakes.

Hence for those of you who are still reading this…. Let me share with you what you should do. I made those mistakes too but I do not want you to go through it..

FOCUS ON ONE PRODUCT/SERVICE FIRST… Then create a campaign around that one product. Spend at least 2-3months on this campaign before introducing another.

Do what it takes to get this campaign out there. Social Media, Internet, Word of Mouth, Flyers, etc, etc… Get the campaign out there and get people to see that product.

Focus just on ONE! Nothing More.

Get it to the point until people start to brand you, label you, talk about you. Are you getting my point here?

Before you show them another product, make sure you are KING of your services / products.

Nothing else. When you become the King people will listen to you… They will spread the word for you… you will get endless streams of referrals.

Alright I am getting carried away but here’s my point. The Internet is just a tool, its just a tool to get your word out. I am going to be frank with you. It just a tool just like that Spanner in your toolbox.

Hence what is more important is Business Knowledge. Period..

That is what this upcoming seminar is all about.. That is why I am NOT doing a hands on workshop especially for Entrepreneurs. Because you DON’T need it now.

WHY do you want a hands on workshop when you don’t understand the business behind it first.

Yes I will cover the Internet Technologies and what you are required to have for an Internet Business… but what’s more important is the Business Knowledge and how you implement that into the Internet Technologies.

PS: If you think Internet Technologies is more important. Then why do your kids who face the computer all day doesn’t know how to make money from it? Then why are you facing that Facebook everyday and still not making any income from it at all. Get my point.
