The man in the detention Barracks
This guy is weird. After interviewing him for an hour I get to know his background and reasons why he AWOL. It was not his first time but his 5th in the detention barracks. This guy hated the ARMY to the core. Whatever reasons he had, he just did not want to serve. The first time he went in was after 3 months he enlisted which was in April 2002. He’s a sad case where the ideas of patriotism and serving others weren’t there. A simple thing to do but requires great commitment and attitude to go through it.
His Requests..
He told me that after serving time this time round he would want to serve in the Detention Barracks or civil prison. Reasons…if he goes out he will somehow get in trouble again..Either due to his supervisors or family problems. Other than that was just to call his mother up and this girl up for him to send photos and letters.
The questions: why do all these nonsense..does he know he had destroyed his whole future. Regardless he said, he rather ROD and not serve the army anymore and find his own way of living. He knew his future is bleak and he told me that “Rezeki can come from all sorts of way.” Haiz how do you change this mindset..
Whatever it was, i did my further investigations into asking his mother and all the problems he mentioned was true. During his period he AWOL, he actually worked and gave his unemployed parents money. So filial yet stupid. Haizz..
Somehow 1 year as a civilian gave me a different approach. If it was 1 year ago I would have done it a differently..more regimental.
We are at a position to change lives but then again if they do not want to change then its difficut for us too…So how do we change a mindset….
