Al-Falah Mosque

Last Friday I attempted to open a stall outside Al-Falah. Its my first time ever since I started my own biz. Normally all my sales are either online, through calls or through the shops and mosques.

Even though it was just one day, the experience is remarkable and there were many lessons to be learnt.

So here, i’m listing the learning points for future references.

No1 - Get attractive signs and posters.

Ok this is the first trial, the only poster i had were those you see on the table. So I didn’t really maximise the potential of the stall. I guess big huje posters work. The idea is to get people’s attention when they are 50 meters away. Imagine from far..

SABUN SERTU
YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU NEED IT!!

Wouldn’t you be attracted?? Well for most people who are ignorant won’t but at least it will get people’s attention.

No2 - Ladies are Economic Drivers…

Don’t you know?? Ladies are the spenders lah. On a Friday at a mosque, there were more men than women. So the potential market ain’t there. So next time need to really see if there are classes for ladies around that day else we’ll just end up with bad sales.

No3 -Flyers in two languages..

This one is really my fault. I printed only Malay flyers. There were so many Indians, Arabs, Chinese and Caucasions passer-bys that i could not reach out to. Really an eye opener. So next time before planning to set up such stalls, we need to understand the market first.

What I did right!!

Fortunately, I’ve combined efforts with another person, Kak Ruby. She sold kain selendang and cake. Instead of paying full rental, i only paid half.

The Salon opposite Al-Falah Mosque
.

As we were mending our stalls, we just couldn’t help observing this particular salon just opposite of us.

From 11am that day, you would see the whole salon hustling and bustling all day long. My god, business is really that good for them.

By the time we closed our stall, they were still busy over there at 8.30pm. Amazing..really amazing..

I must go there someday to learn their marketing strategies. How much ah hair cut over there? Heh.
