Entrivisi - Networking Nite
Networking is a very important aspect of business. Most of the time people engage your services or buy products from you because they know you and they trust you. Entrivisi Networking Nite was organized just for this purpose. To engage the Malay Entrepreneurs and Professionals to meet up with newbie entrepreneurs to share their wisdom and also to interact with each other.
Highlight of the day is the guest of Honour, Mr Umar Hamid’s speech. He pointed 3 important points that we need to know and why!

1) Widen your vision
He was suppose to talk about widening the horizon. Instead of that, he mention that we need to first widen our vision.
So what’s the difference? Widening the horizon also mean expansion. In the 16th century Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. This is what was meant by widening the horizon. Expansion in all areas of life. But in order to do so, someone or that person need to acquire that vision first. He/She needs to be able to see what is life 3-5 years down or even 10 years ahead.
He explained by telling us his story about the few things he listed down when his first Business - Selling Kerepek Manga failed.
1) To earn $1 million
2) To own a $3 million bungalow
3) To take holidays whenever he wanted
4) To have a happy family.
I believe I miss out one point. Help me point it out. That list was written down in 1998 and it was supposed to be achieved in 2003, 5 years time down the road. Instead, he got all that by 1999.
So what’s the secret? He said that we need to be immersed in our objectives and pursue it. Everyday he would have the list in his pocket. He would read it to himself , think about it, dream about it and take action.
If you read my last post about serial entrepenuer. The entrepreneur mention the same thing. Once you state your intentions pursue it with your heart, soul and mind, God will eventually show you the way and insyallah reward you for it.
2) Dream Big but start Small
Envision or dream about how big your business can grow and do start small domestically. Many businesses that went overseas failed due to this. They have not built a reputation nor a base in Singapore. If you fail here it is still alright because it wont cost you much. Ensure that the base is strong enough and learn the ropes of the trade here first before embarking overseas.
Some of my friends asked me before why don’t I market my products overseas. Well if you understand the paragraph above you should understand why. I still need to learn a lot about the trading business, the competition, the pricing, the shipping trade and so on. There is still a lot to learn and going overseas now is risky as my base is not strong enough to support.
Overseas market may be different and most of the time we need to start a fresh. Yes that is true but the basic principles of trading and business are still the same as it is universal.
3) Networking
“Everyone has 24 hours everyday, 6-8 hours are spent in sleep, 10-12 hours to conduct business, 4 hours for networking and the rest is for yourself. 4 hours. So what do you mean by that. Simple 4 hours spent time emailing, calling and talking to people. May not be about business. It may just be a friendly chat. These are steps to build rapport and confidence.
At the end of the Entrivisi workshops, the committee left the participant with a business plan competition. The theme was to promote and market the arts.
Out of the several submissions, Khai and Nadiah won it through their ideas of marketing arts products in a bazaar style. I didn’t get much details about it. Congrats again!!!
They won a mentoring program and hosting services provided by Ed Borhan.
Finally the Fireworks
At the end of everything we stayed back for the fireworks as NDP Preview was still going on at the esplanade. Have fun watching the videos below!!
