Feeling New

July 29, 2008 by Fadzuli

From time to time its great to feel new!!

Just last night I reformatted my laptop due to the ever overloaded hard drive capacity and buggy scripts that’s affecting its performance. Yesterday alone I’ve experience the blue screen effect over 6 times in the office because of a Firefox plugin, its either the Alexa Toolbar or ScribeFire. So I had to use Safari to surf the net.

So anyway now the laptop is running superbly and the hard disks is not making too much noises anymore. So it feels like its brand new again..

Usually i would reformat my pcs or laptops every 6 months to clear the bugs. So how often do you do this?

gosh…i will only reformat my comp/laptop when it crashes. by then, it’s too late lah cos all info will be gone. but i agree that once the reformating has been done, comp feels brand new as if you are starting on a clean slate.

Well its time to do it every 6 months then. Make sure a external hard drive is available for back ups.

The reason I say 6 months, is because our pcs or laptops are prone to unknown viruses, spyware or adware. There is no chance of blocking them all of them, there will surely be a few which will by pass your system.

Furthermore Windows unlike the Mac or Linux has so many registry bugs. This will cause more problems.

Fadzuli, can you like explain to us. What do you exactly do to reformat your laptop or comp. Because I know some of your readers don’t exactly know how to reformat, myself included. Thanx =)

Wah…that could be quite long to tell…

Maybe I just state the steps.

    1) Back up whatever data you have.
    2) Make sure you have your laptop or pc drivers also. You can download it from your manufacturer website. Do this before you reformat your pc / laptop.
    3) You need your operating system CD such as Win XP or Win Vista.
    4) When all is ready. Insert operating system cd into the CD driver then start your pc. You need to make sure its bootable by CD. How to know..OK this is the problem..Different makers or brands have different ways of doing this.
    5) Once the cd runs it will go through the system setup..
    6) this will take like 2-3 hours to complete (reformatting and reinstalling OS)
    7) you have to reinstall drivers else your pc/laptop will not be working properly.
    8) Reinstall your antivirus softwares..

Well if you think its gonna take you ages to learn to do this, I would recommend you to ask someone to help you.

The usual rates for shops to do this for you are around $50 to $70.

If you want to know more perhaps you can refer to this website…
