Global Malays Singapore was launched today at the ARtrium at MICA ( Ministry for Information Communication and the ARTs). A portal set up by a group of Mendaki volunteers whom did it for FREE. This is really great contribution to society.

A portal to help out Malays to step forward into the future and allow them to understand and know the opportunities available in the world. Since the 70s, Singaporean Malays have actually taken the step to go global and they have developed communities over there too.

With this infrastructure in place, it helps create a bridge for us Singaporeans to reach Malay communities in UAE, Kuwait, Australia, America and so on. For students or workers who wish to be employed overseas will easily get the right information here and for businessmen who always seeks opportunities.

As a frequent net user, you would ask why should there be a portal in the first place, since MSN or Instant Messengers are widely used for this purpose? Probably a good answer is “Are you speaking to the right people”. This portal itself help us to reach to credible professionals whom are willing to share their knowledges and expertise from wherever they are. I believe this groups that surf this portal knows and understand what they are up to thus let’s hope this portal doesnt turn the other way round: Instead of being helped, they get harassed. Cross fingers.

About sustainability, now you may say that GLOBALIZATION is the IN thing today thus many users will come to the portal to surf, to chat and exchange ideas but what happens in a few months time when the trend dies off. Let’s hope that the moderators work out a great game plan to keep this portal alive.

The easiest job has just been done, so how do you sustain it.

1) Firstly i wish to say that its a Malay Portal for Malays but the language is pretty much in English thus it help the ever Non-Malay Speaking generation to love it.

2) Link up with the various Malay bodies and businesses that has already created an online presence. Link up with blogs that talk about globalizations. Probably link to those blogs like mine…haha

3) Create awareness and push for the idea of GLOBALIZED MALAYS..probably need to innovate further too. Have more dialogue sessions with the global people and so on.

4) Topics need to be refreshing from time to time. I guess this is one of the hardest to do.
