THE AHM EXPERIENCE

Apologies for the hiatus…
It has been a hectic week. Starting from last Saturday, I slept over at Amoy Quee Camp to wake up early for the Army Half Marathon ( Sheares Bridge Run ) the next day. Upon reaching there, we met up with Victor who advise us we shouldn’t be over nighting there because it will be difficult to sleep. He was right!! Goodness.. the young soldiers can’t sleep, they were watching the Olympics at the GYM that we were sleeping over. Us Reservists soldiers don’t have a bunk so we had to sleep at the GYM. There were a few made shift beds though.
Anyway we woke up around 2.30 am in the morning. I think I had only 3 hours of sleep. Tried to roll over and count sheeps but yah I think I manage to doze off only around 11 plus. So we washed up and waited for the bus till which arrived around 3.15 am and off we go to Padang.
The run only started at 6.30am but the Unit was so DAMN KIASU. They wanted the competitive runners to be there early to book the front lines. I wasn’t a competitive runner, so me and Faizola chilled at Esplanade till like 5.45am. We even had RAMLY BURGER..haha…( Kita ni dah tak betul ah… Nak lari makan Ramly Burger)..Cannot tahan ah..Was too hungry.. Well there were stalls that open that early to catch the runners and organisers of AHM..I think they make quite a lot just for that day…Really there were queues for food man at 4 am!!
Anyway these guys know when to catch the wave man!! Very strategic business idea! But for such lobangs you do need to know people to set up the stalls.
So yeah we had Ramly Burger and we slept for a while till 5.45 am, after which we started to stretch. It drizzled a bit and you can see people running for shelter and much worse toilet. There were so few toilets outside Esplanade.
So by 6.10am we walked to the starting line. You can see an army of runners standing by ( Well most of them are soldiers anyway ). Faizola and I had intended to only run 10km so we ran together with the main body….Half way through we realized they closed off the 10km turn around cos it was only open at 8am.
The reason both of us can only run 10km was that we had appointments at 9 am. Faizola had tuition at Bukit Batok while I had to rush off to Abang Abu Junior Boss workshop at Yio Chu Kang.. Realising that we couldn’t turn around, we continued running till East Coast ( Mc Donalds ). We thought we could get a cab but apparently that’s not the case… So we had to run back to Fort Road to catch the cab at the main road. So yeah in total instead of running 21km and the intended 10km. We ran around 12-13km… We took a cab back to Padang, pick up our bags and went separate ways.
I got back home around 8.55am. Wash up super fast and rode down to Yio Chu Kang Grassroots Club…Well that’s for another post yah!!
